8th Grade Art: Paper Mache Venetian Masks

Makayla Woolman
Paper Mache Venetian Masks: For this lesson students are creating a Venetian Mask using paper mache adorned with decorations made from paper, paint and found objects. For this project, students use a plastic form to create the mask shape. Students add two to three layers of heavy weight paper (Paper grocery bags work best). Students then use colored construction paper to create additional designs that lay flat on the mask. Finally, students use paint to apply simple symbols and shapes on top of their mask and add found objects such as feathers, beads, and string to add additional interest.
